Abstract This paper provides a brief overview of my research topic which is â€Å"The Effects on Children from Broken Homes†. The finding within my research is based on literature reviews, reading into research resources on my topic and personal experiences. The approach I will be utilizing is the qualitative literature reviews, to support my questions and statements. I want to draw the attention to the Pacific Island families who are, or currently on the verge of separation/divorce. The procedure in which the two parties come to term and agree or disagree will affect their children’s social behaviour and well-being, unless there is early intervention which I will also talk about throughout my research. I’d like to point out that the effects on a child should be discussed more as this is the foundation to most social issues, well development within a young individual’s life from broken homes. Dr Armand Nicholi, a clinical professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, reports: the absence of a parent through divorce, contributes to the many forms of emotional disorder, especially the anger, rebelliousness, low self-esteem, depression, and antisocial that characterizes those adolescents who take drugs, become pregnant out of wedlock, or commit suicide. (Nicholi, 1991).
